Happy Birthday, Mom

It’s my mom’s birthday. I have to look up the date of the year and do the math to figure out how old she is, but I have to do that with everyone in the family now. The only one I know exactly how old they are is my brother, who is exactly 10 years younger than me.

I sent mom a Hallmark card and a gift card to a nice restaurant, so hopefully she will have a nice meal without having to cook. She was planning a nice quiet day at home, hope she enjoys her special day.

Rumors

Today I heard a rumor that I am hoping isn’t too good to be true. I was told that we are going to be seeing higher gas prices in the near future, maybe even going up to over the $2 mark.

Now this particular person isn’t always the most reliable person in the world, so I’m not getting my hopes up on his word, but it sure would be nice to find out that he is right on this one.

Up and Down the Prices Go

Thunder on the DC Mall

Every year there are thousands of motorcycles headed toward Washington, DC for the annual “Rolling Thunder.” This is a huge parade of sorts, where thousands of motorcycles ride through downtown DC to the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam War Memorial and the Washington Monument in memory of our men and women serving our country in the military. There is always a rally with speeches and politicians who want to get elected or re-elected for some public office. But more than anything, the camaraderie of all the bikers is what makes this ride so special.

I have been on the ride several times, but this year my motorcycle is not running and I couldn’t find anyone I knew who was going and could give me a ride. Almost everyone I know is married or involved with someone that they were taking on the ride. So I missed it this year, but hopefully next year I’ll be back on the road with my own bike. For now I’ll just have to kick back and at least enjoy the Joy Jewelers military rings that I purchased with a good amount of gift cards that I had saved up from last Christmas!

Pleasant Surprises

Don’t you just love pleasant surprises? I don’t know about you but the majority of the surprises than land in my lap are not very pleasant. I guess there is probably a slew of sayings about how we all have to embrace the hard times in order to enjoy the good times, blah, blah, blah…….

Anyway I am running a bit late for this whole Christmas/Holiday season. It will be December in less than a week and the clock is ticking. I’ve been doing the majority of my gift shopping online, getting some pretty deals and my list is getting a bit shorter, but not short enough to suite my taste.

The good surprise is the 2 shelf utility cart that I found at Musician’s Friend’s for way less than $100. I seriously thought that it would be more expensive and what’s even better is that is it free shipping! I love free!

The Jetsons

It’s funny how we have turned into a society that really takes their Movies and Television so seriously. I can’t imagine living life without a Television set, I mean I can’t even go to sleep at night without my TV on all night long. There are times that I think that I would have really enjoyed a life in another time, like back in the frontier days, or over in Asia in the days of the Shogun with their Ninjas and Samurais, but when it is all said and done I don’t know how I could even consider such a thing since I am totally spoiled with all of today’s technologies that we pretty much take for granted in our daily lives.

We have pretty much turned into what The Jetson’s (the old 1960’s cartoon show set in the future) portrayed us as being. It’s funny how often I find that show being referenced when technology is being discussed. If you were to watch one or two of the episodes of that show, I believe you would be surprised to see all of the similarities of things that we are now using or on the brink of using. It can really freak you out.

The Future, Our Past

I have always loved my TV. I’ve heard some good things about Netflix. I know a lot of people that subscribe to it and are ranting about all the movies that they get to see, when they want to see them. Guy Movies, Chick Flicks, Horror and Suspense Films, Action Films, Love Stories, you name it and you can find them on Netflix. I was kind of hoping that I would get a subscription for Christmas, but that didn’t happen and I can’t afford it myself right now, but that’s OK, there will always be good movies out there, no shortage there folks.
