Trash or Treasure

Thursday, September 15th, 2011

I was digging around in the garage over the past week end and I stumbled upon 3 metal detectors that I had completely forgotten about for some time now. What the problem is that I have no idea if they work or not so I don’t know if I should keep them or toss them into the scrape pile that is building up behind the garage waiting to be taken to the recycling and scrape company in town. My nephew has been none to go metal detecting so I’m thinking of asking him to stop by at his convenience and see if he can clue me in.

Dreaming

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

My daughter has always loved horses and she really wants to own her own horse one day. I can’t say that I blame her, I’ve always loved horses too. It is too bad that we live in the city, there is no where even remotely close to us that has horses that we can go and see and enjoy. I would love to be able for both of us to take riding lessons. It would be so cool for the both of us to be all decked out in our handsome looking equestrian riding apparel and to go for a nice long ride on a trail or even better on the beach some where. Well a girl can dream can’t she?

More Than Ready To Ride

Thursday, August 11th, 2011

One of the fun sports that I enjoy participating in is riding dirt bikes, 4 wheelers and ATVs. This extremely hot and humid summer has put a damper on a lot of fun things that we normally do in the summer months because this type of heat puts so many people in danger and no one that I know can afford to get sick and miss work. So it has been a very lazy summer so far, but we still have a few weeks left with promise of a few cooler days ahead before fall gets here and the leaves start falling off the trees and you don’t want to ride anything on a bunch of wet leaves that are on the roads.

Besides the weather issues, my brother has been waiting on some polaris ranger parts for his ATV, which is my favorite one to ride. But I hear that he finally found the right ones and that they are on their way. Hopefully it won’t take long for him to get it together again and up and running by next weekend because I don’t work next weekend and I’m more than ready for some fun times with good people.

A Safer and Greener Playground Mulch From Rubberecycle

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

I finally got the chance to talk for a bit with my new neighbors. They tell me that they are planning on having a really cool play area built in their very, very large back and side yard that they were so blessed to buy at such a cheap price just a few months ago. They have 5 kids so they need to keep them outside and entertained, instead of staying inside all day long playing video games for the entire summer season, like so many kids are doing these days.

Joan, the wife, tells me that they are having the same company come in and do the work as the Obama’s had do the playground area that got so much media attention at the White House. They (Rubberecycle) manufacture and offer a very economical and environmently friendly rubber granule product for mulch for landscaping and playgrounds that they make 100% from old rubber tires, which I think is a wonderful gesture for the environment. Anything that will help us become as GREEN as possible is all right in my book!

On the down side, and there is always a down side, this means that we will be hearing the noises from all of these kids and all of their noisy little friends along with all of their cousins and other family members that come a visiting. I can only hope that these kids take advantage of not having to get up so early for school and actually sleep in during their summer vacation days so that we will not be woken up at a crazy early hour all summer long.

The Games People Play

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011

I do so miss playing games like we did when we were kids. You know, those board games that most of us played with our brothers and sisters along with other neighborhood friends. My favorite game was Monopoly and then later on I got real good with the miltary strategy game called RISK that my brothers were usually so good at playing until I finally caught on to their cheating ways and turned the tables on them and started kicking their butts. I was never very good at Scrabble since my spelling has always left a lot to be desired but it was still fun trying to make the best words with the highest points.

There has been a big push to get families back to playing these old favorite board games, which I think is pretty cool. So many of use our now playing online games these days on our computers. There are tons of games available to play online and they certainly do come in handy in the fact that we can play them when we want and when we can. There is no need to try and talk anyone else into playing a game with you, which can be a challenge with everyone so busy in their lives and schedules. I personally like playing UNO and Spades online, but it will never take the place of a traditional board game being played with friends or family.
