Too Old For Rock-N-Roll Concerts

I don’t think that I would enjoy going to a music concert at this point in my life. The last one I went to it was because I was given two Zac Brown Band Tickets and I felt obligated to go, why I don’t know, but I did. I called up a friend from work and she jumped at the chance to go, so off we trotted, dressed to kill, ready for a night of fun rocking and rolling our hearts out even though it was a work night and we both needed to be at work bright and early the next morning. We grabbed a quick bite to eat and had a couple of after dinner drinks to get us in the mood and got there just moments for the show started.

Things went down hill from there I’m sad to say. First, it was way too loud and we were stuck in seats that were right in front of one of the largest speakers that I’ve ever seen in my life. Second, we had assigned seats but no one wanted to sit down during the performance so we had to stand up as well which really sucked after working all day, on my feet for the majority of the time. Even standing up we couldn’t see much so we kept sitting down a good part of the time. The third problem was with the group of people behind us, it was a big group of people that must have been smoking something and chasing it with whiskey or tequila or something just as horrible, their behavior was totally outrageous, they were loud, mean, vulgar and kept arguing and fighting between themselves, it was just crazy.

The next day at work we were both dragging, feeling like little old ladies, which was very disturbing to me. It was then that I realized that my concert going days have come to an end. I don’t care if some one turned me on to some Elton John Tickets, I’m done. Now that’s not saying that I don’t want to attend any type of live performance. I love comedy and I’d love to get my hands on some Dane Cook Tickets, he is my absolute favorite comic, right up there with Jeff Dunham and Jeff Foxworthy. Go ahead and make me laugh any time, please.

Blender Drinks

When I was young and frisky, blender drinks meant an alcoholic beverage that we ordered from the bar while catting around the bars and clubs on the weekends. A blender drink was usually a Daiquiri or a Margarita, served in large stemware with fruit garnishes and sometimes, if you were lucky, even little chinese umbrellas spearing the fruit and resting on the edge of the glass.

Nowadays a blender drink means a healthy substitute for a meal. I use fresh orange juice and crushed ice as a base, and add whatever fruits and sometimes vegetables that I have on hand, usually at the least a banana and strawberries. But it can be apples, pears, blueberries, blackberries, or grapefruit.

If fresh fruit is hard to come by, I pull a handful of something good from my freezer or dump a can of something packed in light syrup from the pantry shelves. A few minutes in the blender and I have a tall cold drink that I can take with me on the run. It isn’t hard to come up with nice looking garnish that is good for your health as well.

No

This is currently my favorite Meghan Trainor song. She just keeps pumping out the hits. Her and Katty Perry just float this girl’s boat! They are always about some type of “Girl Power” and since I am a product of the 1980s the Spice Girls were a huge influence on girls of all ages back then!

Happy Dance

The musiciansfriend.com guitar parts that I ordered earlier in the month has arrived. I can’t wait to see my daughter’s face on her birthday morning when she opens up the box that contains this wonderful gift that she has no idea that I am getting it for her at all. I am keeping this gift hidden down stairs and will wait until all the other presents are all open and done with before going down and getting it to hand directly to her at that moment.

My mother did that to me one year. I really wanted a new clock radio and was so disappointing that there was no more of the presents with my name on it contained this much wanted new piece of technology. My mother proceeded to go in the other room and came back with a wrapped present and gave it to me to open, with everyone’s attention concentrated on me. I’m glad that no one was taping that morning because I know that I must have done the craziest “happy dance” of all times, not something that I would want to be on film for people to watch and laugh at in the future. I mean really it could possibly end up on YouTube, how horrible would that be?

Thunder on the DC Mall

Every year there are thousands of motorcycles headed toward Washington, DC for the annual “Rolling Thunder.” This is a huge parade of sorts, where thousands of motorcycles ride through downtown DC to the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam War Memorial and the Washington Monument in memory of our men and women serving our country in the military. There is always a rally with speeches and politicians who want to get elected or re-elected for some public office. But more than anything, the camaraderie of all the bikers is what makes this ride so special.

I have been on the ride several times, but this year my motorcycle is not running and I couldn’t find anyone I knew who was going and could give me a ride. Almost everyone I know is married or involved with someone that they were taking on the ride. So I missed it this year, but hopefully next year I’ll be back on the road with my own bike. For now I’ll just have to kick back and at least enjoy the Joy Jewelers military rings that I purchased with a good amount of gift cards that I had saved up from last Christmas!
