The Author of this post is Cheryl Martinez

Sometimes I feel so guilty for living so far away from my mom. She lives in Florida where I grew up, and I live with my husband and kids in Washington, DC. She likes to be on her own, but I worry about her. When I speak to her on the phone I get the feeling all she does all day is sit by herself and watch Cable tv. She has a few friends but they are all busy spending time with their own families. I have invited her to come and live with us several times, but she says DC is too cold for her and she never wants to live here. I hope that eventually she will decide to come and live with me, but I don’t know if that will ever happen. I try to visit her as much as I can, but it’s hard to make the trip that often. It’s expensive to fly the whole family down there and we can’t always afford it. I guess if she needed us she would call, so I try to put it out of my head and do the best I can. My husband says that maybe in a few years he will start looking for a job in Florida. I hope that actually happens so I can help my mom.

It isn’t the type of book that I would normally read, but I needed a book to stick in my purse the other week and just grabbed one off of the book shelve as I was running out the door. But I’m glad that I picked this book because it has turned out to be a pretty interesting read that I have learned a lot from it as well. When I read this part about Ben Franklin I knew that I had

The great American statesman, scientist, inventor and philosopher, Benijamin Frankin, wrote his own epitaph at the age of twenty-two. Carl Van Doren called “the most famous of American epitaphs.” Unfortunately, it was never used on Ben Franklin’s tombstone.

I have always dreamed of having my own hot tub out back, water is such an important therapeutic option for me, I fear I would never want to do anything other than soak my aching body and all my troubles away and I’d become extremely anti social, preferring my hot tub over just about anyone!

I pick cyber Monday, no two ways about it. I went shopping on black Friday one time, about five years ago and I swore that I would never, ever try and do that again. I’ve kept that promise and intend to always keep it.

I remember last year hearing something about cyber monday, but I really didn’t understand what it was all about, I wish that I had known because it seems so easy, but you can bet that I will use it this up and coming holiday season.

My sister sent me the link Cyber-monday.org and I have passed it along to my friends to pass on because it is that cool. It is real easy to purchase Cyber Monday items online that are offering sale prices and discounts from all kinds of merchants. You can even set it up to where you will get an email to alert you when new sales come up. My sister and I use several of the merchants that participate, especially around the holidays, so I’m sure lots of other people use them also, like Wal-Mart, Best Buy and I’m sure that one of my sisters will love the Urban Outfitters bargains.

Just think, no more getting up at 3:00 in the morning the day after Thanksgiving (which is such a long and tiresome holiday to begin with). No more standing in line in the cold along with hundreds of other bargain thirsty shoppers that do nothing but bitch and moan and complain the whole time you are stuck in line with them. And not having to worry about getting pushed and shoved and cursed at and no more screaming children that have no business being out at that time of the morning, who should be home in bed sleeping off the previous night’s huge turkey dinner and long drive home from Grandma’s house.

This year I’m gonna be right there – on the Internet – along with tons of other people that I don’t have to see, hear, touch or smell, participating on Cyber Monday. We will see how well I do and I want to hear how well my sisters make out also. It will be interesting, I’m really looking forward to it, but am glad that it isn’t for another 10 months from now.

It is good to hear that my in-laws are registering for a Back pain seminar that is scheduled in Dallas Texas on March 17th, which is only a few weeks away. They were both in a pretty serious car accident about 4 years ago and neither one of them has ever recovered from it. Most days they both experience back and neck pain and have run through plenty of doctors and various medicines, tests, therapies which none have done either one of them a bit of good. I can only hope that this back pain seminar provides them with something that will help them get through their days and nights without so much pain and discomfort. They are good people and don’t deserve this hard ship.

We new that the time was close at hand when we would find the need to find a good assisted living arrangement for my grandmother. It is a good thing really as she doesn’t want to burden any of the family members by moving in with any of us, but she certainly will miss her home that she has lived in for almost 50 years. When my grandfather passed almost 10 years ago we were all so very afraid that she wouldn’t be able to handle living in their house alone, but she managed to get by just fine up until about a month ago, so we are trying to be pro active in looking for the best Assisted living community in the area that we all agree on and that grandma will appreciate as well.

I appreciate the guest post, Emerson Moses

I just finished reading “The Baby Book,” by Dr. William Sears. I love this book, and plan to buy a copy for any and all of my friends who have babies. One thing I read that really intrigues me is the idea of teaching a baby to communicate with sign language. Basically, what it said is that babies can communicate much earlier than they can speak with actual words, and if you teach your baby sign language, they can tell you what they want and need even when they don’t know how to talk yet. It assured me that this would help, rather than hinder, my baby’s oral language development. I don’t know any signs, though! I know I could find signs and pictures of signs online, so I’m going to see if we can get internet connection. I went to http://www.satellitestarinternet.com/ and it seemed like an option that would work for us. Then, once I am able to access the sign language for babies sites, I’m going to print off pictures of all the signs to display around the house.

It is always nice to have a two step stool on hand for times that it is really needed. The older I get the more worried I am about balancing myself on crazy things in order to reach things and how dangerous it really is as well as the damage I could cause myself from falling doing something as silly as not using something that was made for that type of situation.

One of the things that my father always tried to drill in our heads was “Safety First” and I’d hate to disappoint him by not taking heed of his words of wisdom. So I guess I need to start looking around and finding a good quality two step stool that is affordable in my already stretched budget.
