It is getting very hard to afford the good cuts of beef for regular family dinners. I have had to cut back on steaks for just special occasions.

My  favorite is the Green Tea, but I also like the citrus flavor and recently tried the Nirvana, which has a melon flavor. All these years the Sobe drinks have been in tall glass bottles. But today when I bought a citrus Sobe, the bottle was not glass – it was plastic. What’s up with that?

They always had a cup of tea for themselves or their guests. In fact, they always offered, “Would you like a nice cup of tea?” It was always referred to as a nice cup. I can’t think in my head about having tea without thinking of it as a nice cup of tea.

But, when I was 16 I was introduced to coffee and as an adult I have fully embraced coffee. I have a cup of coffee in the morning and am not human nor fit to be around until after I have had my cup of coffee.

Tonight, I am enjoying a nice cup of tea while I watch Letterman and try to get settled in for the night. Every time I make myself a nice cup of tea I think of my grandmother and my granddad and I miss them.

There’s a bit of a tiff underway and I want to part of it. So we are staying home and I’m cooking a small turkey for just us. I think I’ll do sweet potatoes and a couple of side dishes that are my long time favorites, like corn pudding and turnip greens with relish.

This year I was so excited to plant a larger garden. I bought twice as many tomato plants and twice as many pepper plants as last year. And  started some pumpkins from seed.

I want to plant some flowers, too and bought some seed packets and phlox plants to try growing a few flowers around the mail box.

DH came home with a big box of ripe bananas that were free for the taking. I don’t know how two people are supposed to eat all these bananas. I guess I will freeze them and break out the blender so we can start making smoothies and milkshakes.

I had several glorious hours to myself this afternoon and I took full advantage of them.

Dinner was a strange combination of things that I like and felt like cooking. And I’ll watch TV to see the end of the Amazing Race series and the season finale of The Unit.

It’s been great so far. Happy Mother’s Day to all my friends who are mothers!
