Mom is Lonely

The Author of this post is Cheryl Martinez

Sometimes I feel so guilty for living so far away from my mom. She lives in Florida where I grew up, and I live with my husband and kids in Washington, DC. She likes to be on her own, but I worry about her. When I speak to her on the phone I get the feeling all she does all day is sit by herself and watch Cable tv. She has a few friends but they are all busy spending time with their own families. I have invited her to come and live with us several times, but she says DC is too cold for her and she never wants to live here. I hope that eventually she will decide to come and live with me, but I don’t know if that will ever happen. I try to visit her as much as I can, but it’s hard to make the trip that often. It’s expensive to fly the whole family down there and we can’t always afford it. I guess if she needed us she would call, so I try to put it out of my head and do the best I can. My husband says that maybe in a few years he will start looking for a job in Florida. I hope that actually happens so I can help my mom.

Florida Here We Come

Sunday, April 22nd, 2012

How can I say no to my parents that are offering my brother and I a week’s get-a-way with them to Orlando, Florida this up and coming July. It will be interesting to go somewhere, just the four of us, much like back in the day when we were all so much younger.  Apparently our folks found a great Orlando vacation package at homes.orlandovacation.com that they just couldn’t pass up and it looks like we will be heading down to the land of sunshine and Disney Land in less then 100 days. Now how cool is that?

If It Is Still Dark Out, I Should Be Sleeping

morningpersona1

I hate mornings. I come from a family of night owls that dates back as far as anyone can remember so I got it honestly. As much as I love the sunshine I would do just fine if I slept all day and was up all night for the rest of my live, not a hard thing to do these days with so many options to work other than the typical Monday – Friday 9 – 5.

Around Here

Saturday, April 21st, 2012

I really like the new led lights that my son put on his dad’s truck for him today. I’m so glad that he his finally starting to show some interest in spending more time around here with his dad rather than running around town with his friends. The weather has been delightful and they have been getting a good amount of things taken care of around here this past week.  Now if only I could get them to till the garden so I could get it planted. I really want it done by the end of April.

My Little Sister Shout Out

Saturday, April 14th, 2012

Once upon a time there were three sisters.

I’m the oldest. Oh yes, old is OK.  I’ve embraced my age and loving it.

Then there’s Monica and Ellen.

Then there’s a passle of brothers, but this is a sister shout out.

They both blog (see that blogroll over there?) and although we don’t see each other all that often with all these miles between us, we stay in touch with emails and phone calls and I think we’re pretty close.

Hugs to my sisters!
