One of my brothers is celebrating a birthday today. It is not one of the “big ones,” but the cool think about his birthday is that I was 10 years old when he was born. And then, when my first born son was born, my brother was 10 years old. So we have me minus ten years equals my brother, and he minus ten years equals my son. That’s the family math.

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012baby sign langauge
Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012I appreciate the guest post, Emerson Moses
I just finished reading “The Baby Book,” by Dr. William Sears. I love this book, and plan to buy a copy for any and all of my friends who have babies. One thing I read that really intrigues me is the idea of teaching a baby to communicate with sign language. Basically, what it said is that babies can communicate much earlier than they can speak with actual words, and if you teach your baby sign language, they can tell you what they want and need even when they don’t know how to talk yet. It assured me that this would help, rather than hinder, my baby’s oral language development. I don’t know any signs, though! I know I could find signs and pictures of signs online, so I’m going to see if we can get internet connection. I went to http://www.satellitestarinternet.com/ and it seemed like an option that would work for us. Then, once I am able to access the sign language for babies sites, I’m going to print off pictures of all the signs to display around the house.
Graduated to Grilled Cheese
Tuesday, February 21st, 2012It’s been a rough couple of days lately. I some how got myself a stomach bug that has turned my life upside down but I am finally feeling up to real food again. I made grilled cheese sandwiches and nibbled on a small handful of Lays potato chips. I’m still drinking a lot of green tea, and I think maybe I’m getting addicted to the tea. I have a cup by my side all day and even take a cup to bed with me and leave it on the night stand.
I’ve given up on TV – the only time I turn it on is to watch the 10:00 news and then I shut it off again. I’d much rather listen to the music I have in my collection and have been playing a lot of oldies but goodies to just listen to them again. It’s not as depressing. Found an old album by Robert Cray that’s really easy on the ears. Haven’t listened to him in ages – love it.
Safety First
Saturday, February 18th, 2012It is always nice to have a two step stool on hand for times that it is really needed. The older I get the more worried I am about balancing myself on crazy things in order to reach things and how dangerous it really is as well as the damage I could cause myself from falling doing something as silly as not using something that was made for that type of situation.
One of the things that my father always tried to drill in our heads was “Safety First” and I’d hate to disappoint him by not taking heed of his words of wisdom. So I guess I need to start looking around and finding a good quality two step stool that is affordable in my already stretched budget.
Valentines Chocolates
Monday, February 13th, 2012Since I am off work tomorrow, this morning when I arrived at my desk I discovered a great big red velvet heart shaped box filled with chocolates waiting for me on my computer desktop. That was such a nice Valentine’s Day surprise!
I love chocolates – my favorite is a dark chocolate piece filled with a rasberry gel. Second best is a creamy milk chocolate filled with buttery caramel. I love both flavors – but to be honest, there isn’t much about chocolate and any filling you can get that I wouldn’t want. So I limit myself to just one piece a day.
