President’s Day Sales

February 18th, 2008

Decided to take advantage of the President’s Day sales and go shopping today. Went to the outlet mall and picked up a couple Big Dog shirts for hubby. Tried to find my cologne, Realities by Liz Claiborne, but the Liz store didn’t have any – just lots of the Curve fragrances. I really like the Realities and am holding off buying anything else until I check around town a few more places. Sure hope they haven’t discontinued it – that would bite.

Wrapped up the day at Dilliards and lucked into a great find. There’s a new line of jeans called, NYDJ, which stands for “not your daughter’s jeans.” These are an upscale, stylish jean with special features for a more mature woman, which I very much appreciate. They fit perfectly and look HOT! They are usually just over $100, but I got a pair at 20% off. Thank you very much George Washington!

Happy Valentine’s Day to my Hubby

February 14th, 2008

After all these years, you are still the love of my life. I’m so lucky to have you.

You don’t mind me calling you Cupcake now, do you? I kinda like it.

February is for Birthing Babies

February 12th, 2008

There are a lot of birthdays in February. All three of my nephews were born in February, and although years apart their birthdates are only days apart. How cool is that?

As they get older it is harder and harder to find something to buy for them. First, I want to give them something they will like and consider a little treat. I don’t want it to be something practical – I want it to be fun and frivolous. People always seem to find a way to buy the things for themselves that they must have. I want to give them something that they would love to have but don’t think to or have the money to buy for themselves.

Next, I need to be able to ship it without spending a fortune. So obviously, weight and size has a lot to do with the expense of mailing or shipping the gift.

Third, I want them to really like it. It would break my heart to find out that the gift was tossed into a drawer and never used or looked at. I would love for them to point it out to people and brag about how Auntie Donna bought this for ME!

So there is the challenge and I have to get busy because all three of them are next week!

Yearning for an RV

February 10th, 2008

Getting an RV has always been a dream and I have to admit that recently the yearning for one has been getting stronger.

We stopped by a Camper World kinda place a few years ago and I was crushed to see how expensive they can be. Not in this girl’s budget!

But if you have some cash at hand and bide your time, bargains can be had. I have been watching the sell it yourself ad books each week and there have been some good deals out there. I’m just not ready to spend that much money, what with taxes coming due and the price of gas going up a few pennies more every day.

But I have wanderlust in my genes and traveling the country by RV gives you a totally different perspective on the highways and towns on your trip than just flying in on a plane and taking a cab to the hotel. I want to see the country close up and do it while I’m young enough to enjoy the experience.

Tornado Aftermath

February 6th, 2008

Here is a slideshow of photos showing some of the damage from last night’s tornadoes.

We tried to go help with the cleanup but the police turned us away. We had taken our chainsaw and some large trash bins and big plastic bags with us in the truck, but they didn’t even want those. Oh well, we did try.

Evidently, Mrs. Williams was killed in her home from the storm making her roof blow half off and then it caved in on her. I don’t think she even knew what was happening. Mrs. Williams was my dad’s bookeeper for years and years until she retired about 8 years ago.

That was really sad news. I hope things get better today as people search for the missing and arrange for temporary housing for the victims.
