Interesting forecast for us water babies

February 27th, 2008

I wonder what today will bring? Sounds like a good day for Donna!

Today’s Horoscope, by Christopher Renstrom, author of “Ruling Planets”

AQUARIUS January 20-February 17
You must choose between what you want and the greater good. Usually you put your personal wants on hold, but this time the Stars show that the greater good can wait.

Still Snowing!

February 27th, 2008

When we went to bed it was snowing and there was a dusting on the ground. Just enough wet to freeze on the windshield and make everyone at least 10 minutes latesince they had to clear off their windshields with ice scrapers, or my case an old credit card that I didn’t care if it snapped in half – and sure enough, it did. (I think there is a message in there, somewhere.)

So this morning, the ground is covered with a very thin coating of white stuff and it is still snowing. I’m sure schools are closed everywhere and Kroger has had a run on its milk, bread, eggs and toilet paper. Funny how we could have gotten along today without all that milk, bread, eggs and toilet paper, but since it is snowing we MUST have those things.

I was NOT one of those Kroger lemmings, thank you very much. I go shopping once a week and know how to plan my menus ahead and have everything on hand for the week, plus a little extra in case of, hmm, maybe snow? or even better the unexpected drop in of guests who I want to have stay for dinner. I have a great pantry and I keep it well stocked because we love to eat well and I like to prepared for anything.

New Competition for the Branson Crowd

February 26th, 2008

Just read about a planned entertainment complex for southern Alabama similar to the hugely popular tourist destination in Branson, MO. The planned complex will have hotels, restaurants, performance venues, a midway and an RV park.

This is exciting news for people in the southeast. They haven’t had anything like it and the influx of tourists and their dollars plus the nearby quality performances by big name stars will certainly improve the quality of life for many people throughout alabama, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida, as well as other areas within a day’s drive of Dothan.

The country music resort will be called, “Country Crossing,” and groundbreaking is expected later this year.

Busy Day!

February 23rd, 2008

I used to love Saturdays when the kids were little. It always meant something fun, like a trip to the beach or all those baseball games. When the weekend came, we always had someplace to go and something fun to do. I was a master at coming up with low cost or free events and adventures. Usually all I had to worry about was putting gas in the car and away we would go!

Some of my favorite memories are the days we all spent tubing down the Shenandoah River or body surfing at Chincoteague Beach. And, of course, there were many many days and nights spent at my mother’s home on the river, where the boys went fishing and swimming and boating during the day and dinners at the Dairy Queen in town.

Now my Saturdays are spent running errands and cleaning house, and if I’m not too tired, maybe a couple games of Spades on the internet before bed. But now I have my blog to add to the To-Do list, and I don’t mind making room for that at all! This blogging is pretty easy, once you get the hang of it.

Interested in Learning More About the Presidential Candidates?

February 20th, 2008

I tend to ignore all the news stories about the candidates. who is bashing who and who is slinging mud at the other just does not interest me.

What I need to know is how do the candidates stand on certain key issues, like abortion rights and the problems we are facing with the invasion of illegal aliens.

Here is a site I like that gives the facts on how the candidates have voted previously on key issues and quotes from speeches they have made. Although the focus of the site is actually religion, the section on “Compare Candidates” is not slanted toward religious issues. I found it very helpful to get a better picture of who best represents my personal feelings on the issues of today and who deserves my vote.
